Gingerbread

Sweets cottage gingerbread house

This super sweet gingerbread cottage features a candy roof, heart shaped windows, peppermint stick trim, tiny gingerbread people, and billowy puffs of royal icing accenting every corner. I definitely appreciate a good traditional gingerbread house with all of the classic elements, and that’s what I was going for with this one!

I don’t know exactly when my fascination with gingerbread began, but I’m pretty sure it goes all the way back to childhood. When I was a girl, my favorite fairy tale was Hansel and Gretel. I was captivated by the idea of an edible house made of gingerbread! It seemed so fantastic and impossible. I loved the story of Hansel and Gretel so much that I must have read and watched a thousand different versions of the story (my favorite is Shelley Duvall’s Faerie Tale Theater version with Joan Collins), and I even named my dog Gretel. Anyway, that was the beginning of my gingerbread obsession, and now, here I am, creating edible houses of my own!

An orange slice candy decorates the door while a blue candy button becomes the door knob.

I love this little gingerbread girl with her bow and pinafore dress. The trees are made of green royal icing piped using a star tip.

This gingerbread boy has a surprised look on his face. Christmas colored nonpareils decorate this small tree and the heart window trim.

These cute gingerbread are meant to be brother and sister, just like Hansel and Gretel.

Here is a view from above of the gingerbread house. You can see the red, white, and green candy balls that are hiding around the base of the house.

Thanks for taking a look at this first gingy! By the way, I use the term “gingy” as a nickname for my gingerbread houses. It’s kind of a shorthand, and it’s just quicker to say or type gingy. Now that you know the lingo, I hope you enjoyed looking at this Sweets Cottage Gingerbread House! Thanks so much for stopping by!
