Santa’s Gingerbread house
This sweet little gingerbread house is all about the chocolate decorations. I like using chocolate molds when I can to add details to projects. I found a gingerbread accessories mold and it was the perfect thing to use to add some charm to this house.
With a Chex Cereal roof and lemon drop windows, this gingerbread house is pretty traditional, and the chocolate decorations add some color and interest.
The figgy pudding mold came from an aluminum mold that I have. All of the other decorations including the Santa, wreath, candy cane, tree, and bows are from the gingerbread accessories mold (shown below).
Chocolate molds are fun to work with if you have patience. It really is a layering process. From the pictures above, you can see that you start by filling in the details. I like to work with one color at a time, adding the red berries to the wreath and the ornaments to the tree, along with the stripes on the candy cane. Next I add the yellow details such as the ribbon on the tree, Santa’s belt buckle, and the bow on the little wreath. I am adding all of these details with a tiny paintbrush and using a confectionary coating (chocolate melts) that have been melted in my Candy Melter Palette.
If you are into working with chocolate, a Candy Melter Palette is a must have. It was a game changer for me, when I finally discovered it. It will keep small amounts of chocolate melted so that you can have a variety of different colors melted and at your fingertips for painting in your detail work.
Once you have your details painted in and they are dry, it’s time to fill your molds. Don’t forget to give it a minute before you fill in the molds otherwise your chocolate colors may run together and you will lose all of your painstaking work! I sometimes pop the molds into the fridge to let them set up while I am working on other things.
The three fill colors for these molds were green, red, and white. I melted each of these colors separately and then poured into the cavities.
The shiny balls that decorate the green foliage are silver dragees. They add that extra sparkle. I also like the way the candy details shine. They have a nice sheen that is different from a fondant and royal icing. As you can see, I have no problem with mixing mediums. We’ve got multiple types of decorations, including chocolate, royal icing, sprinkles, melted candy, and gingerbread all intermingling happily on this gingerbread house.
You may notice that the snowman I put on the gingerbread house is not the one from the gingerbread accessories mold pictured above! This is because I found another snowman mold that I liked better, so I made a substitution.
Gingerbread houses don’t have to be over the top creations to bring joy! This is a great example of a pretty simple gingerbread house that has been dressed up with some fun chocolate decorations. I hope you enjoyed this one!
